EVOLUTION REVOLUTION: AND THE RISE OF AI

HIGHLIGHTS FROM HALLOWEEN CLINIC 2024!!
FALL PREPARATIONS
Hi Folks,
Vaccine availability and distribution is like last year:
INFLUENZA:
It’s that time of the year again when all our friendly little ghosts and goblins must get their Flu shots. All of our vaccines are in. We encourage special needs children to make arrangements for their shots ASAP. Everyone else can come to our Vaccine Clinic/Halloween Party scheduled for 10/26/21 at 10:30-3:00 pm. This year’s theme is AI and its attempt to conquer human civilization!! Come help us save humanity…..If you think you can!
We have both a bivalent vaccine (Fluarix) which prevents disease caused by Influenza subtypes A and B, and a trivalent vaccine (FluLaval) which prevents disease caused by 2 Influenza subtypes A (H1N1 and H3N2) and one influenza subtype B (Victoria lineage). In addition to these 3 viral types, the quadrivalent vaccine also had activity against B/Yamagata virus. However, this virus has not been detected since March of 2020, so that vaccine is being phased out. Fluarix and FluLaval vaccines can be given to individuals with egg allergies except those who have SEVERE REACTIONS LIKE ANAPHYLAXIS to eggs. Otherwise, they are safe for persons 6 months and older and were not obtained from human cell lines.
COVID:
I spoke to the Pennsylvania DOH pertaining to COVID, its treatment, and new vaccines. Other than a new vaccine, little has changed. if a child tests positive for COVID-19 and is older than 2 years of age, they are to be quarantined for 5 days then retested. If still positive, they are considered contagious and would require a mask when in public. If negative, they would not be considered contagious and would not have to wear a mask when out in public.
As previous we will order COVID 19 vaccines for infants and children 6 mos to 5 years, but only AT YOUR REQUESTS. We are compiling a list to order these in bulk and will contact those people on our list for their vaccines. If kids in this age group have not received any COVID vaccines they are to receive 2 doses of the 2024-2025 Moderna vaccine (4 weeks apart), OR 3 doses of the 2024-2025 BioNTech vaccine (3 and 8 weeks apart). If they already received 1 or more doses of the Moderna vaccine they only need one other dose of the new vaccine. However, if they received one dose of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine they need 2 doses of the new Pfizer vaccine (again, 3 and 8 weeks apart). Only if they received 2 previous doses of the Pfizer vaccine are they allowed to have only one dose of the new Pfizer vaccine. Please let us know if you’re interested in these vaccinations.
RSV:
Little has changed in regard to this vaccine most especially its unavailability. The RSV vaccine (Nirsevimab-alip) is recommended for all infants 0-8 months during RSV season. The dose is weight dependent. Those less than 5 kg (11 lbs) will receive 50 mg IM x 1 dose. Those 5 kg (11 lbs) or more will receive 100 mg IM x 1 dose. This dose will last for the duration of RSV season and will not require a second dose. Kids who are at high risk for RSV infection complications can qualify for this vaccine if between 8-19 months. If you are interested in this vaccine, please check with your insurance carrier as these vaccines are very expensive (~$500.00) then let us know.
As always, thank-you for your cooperation.

FAQs
Some of my most commonly asked questions are now easily accessible for your viewing pleasure.
Hobbies
I have frequently been asked if I did anything other then work. The answer is yes. I like the Arts. My favorite art forms are the visual arts and poetry. I have enclosed two for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure). And no, I will not quit my day job!!! For our Annual Halloween/Flu clinic I write poems denoting the main theme for that year.
